DIN V 65900-17-2001 pdf free download.Aerospace series – O-ring grooves – Design criteria for O-ring grooves,basic calculations.
preferential dimensional range associating housingand O-ring is given by EN 3748. lt is requested to con-form to it in a rational objective and an optimisation ofsealings obtained by O-ring.
whatever the type of sealing, radial or axial, a housingis said to be static in so much as the parts making upthe assembly do not move with respect to each other.
1 Scope
This Technical Report provides:
– the design criteria recommended for the housing
definition for O-rings as specified in Iso 3601-1;
a calculation method to formulate dimensions ofthe housing for which the near environment influ-ences parameters in consequence of the definition(seal stretch, squeeze, reduced seal cross-section,swell).
lt is limited to:
-radial sealing: rod or bore mounted O-rings;
– axial sealing: internal or external pressure source.
2Normative references
This Technical Report incorporates,by dates or un-dated reference,provisions from other publications.These normative references are cited at the appro-priate places in the text and the publications are listedhereafter. For dated references,subsequent amend-ments to or revisions of any of these publications applyto this Technical Report only when incorporated in it byamendment or revision. For undated references,thelatest edition of the publication referred to applies (in-cluding amendments).

4General
4.1 Rubber families concerned
This document applies to all rubber families in so faras:
-the O-ring dimensional tolerance ranges corre-
spond to standard lso 3601-1;
-the hardness ranges 60 IRHD to 90 IRHD;
-the volume variation ranges – 5 %to + 15 % of
the original volume (see 8.4).
4.2 Permissible pressures
The O-ring housing parameters, defined in accordancewith this Technical Report,allow to assure sealing ofjoints submitted to pressures up to 10 MPa for anO-ring with a mean hardness ‘of 70 lRHD. Above10 MPa, a device to ensure extrusion resistance(reduction of the rod/bore clearance,anti-extrusionring) is to be provided;consequently,the housingwould necessitate redesign.
NOTE 1 An O-ring with a high hardness will have anextrusion resistance greater than an O-ring with a lowhardness, permitting also greater pressure level to beused.
NOTE 2 The permissible pressure values include thealternating and pulsatory pressures (pressure surges).
